Help Ferncreek Elementary
Full Description:
If you didn't know, we have an "A" school in ourmidst with Ferncreek Elementary. They have done an incredible job, earning the ranking for several years now and keep doing it against the odds. The free and reduced lunch rate of the children at Ferncreek sits around the 80% rate. That means that at least that many are in a situation that they can't afford many of the things some kids take for granted.
It takes a community to make a school and we have been very helpful in the past. Donations, time and money have come from the area routinely and I know they are extremely grateful. It is school time again and there are a few things we can do for these kids to make their year as successful as possible.
First, there are the school supplies. When someone is having a hard time of it, paper and pencils can seem frivolous. Below is a list of things that would make a kids year go off wonderfully. Beautiful thing is that these things are tax free right now. $30 is all it takes to take care of a kid for the year. The really tight items are in bold, they run out fast.
Second, Ferncreek has had a program of providing school shirts to students. These are simple t-shirts. They wear them every Friday and on field trips. They gather a lot of pride in the students for themselves and their school. Since many can't afford these on their own, Ferncreek gives one to each student instead. They have also invited the community to help. It cost $3000 to give one to every kid.
In the case of the shirts, donation is the way to help. Of course it is tax deductible but you will also know that every Friday some kid will be bouncing around joyously in the threads you bought. You can contact the school with the info below or send the check to them. Make sure to note that it is for "student t-shirts". Plus you will get the kudos through the marquee, newsletter and events.
